Hairt Expo 2016 - Best Exhibition

Hair Expo Australia 2016 has been announced as the national winner of Best Exhibition at the Australian Event Awards on the evening of Wednesday 21 September 2016 at a lavish ceremony on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Hair Expo Australia’s status as Australia’s Best Exhibition marks it out as one of the best events held in Australia between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016 and we could not be more proud of this significant achievement.

When hairdressers come together, they want to celebrate their life choice: a career not only based on craft and skill, intense training and long work hours, but also on their passion for creativity, fashion, and last but not least people. With an unmatched history of 36 years, Hair Expo has managed to capture and grow the spirit of the industry from a modest gathering in a Queensland academy to a takeover of the city of Sydney with over 10,000 Expo visitors, thousands of models, attendance of global VVIPs and a breathtaking kaleidoscope of educational and social events over three days.

In 2014 however, the forced move from SCEC to Glebe Island disrupted the event’s success story with visitor and exhibitor satisfaction declining due to the location of the new Centre and the lack of conference facilities. So a bold move was needed to gain back desirability and respect – thus we packed up and moved to Melbourne’s MCEC! Not only the new state and venue, but also introducing a huge array of content innovation as well as clarifying and boasting Hair Expo’s DNA – The Festival of Hair – resulted in a complete turnaround and record results for the 2016 event. The 2016 event delivered a 37% increase in visitors, a 35% increase in exhibitors and a 38% increase in revenue.

Co-chair of the independent industry judging panel which selects the winners, Sandy Hollway, former CEO of the 2000 Olympic Games, said: “The strength of all entries in their year’s Event Awards is a testament to the Winners announced on Wednesday night. Winners this year have shown an impressive ability to bring creative, engaging concepts to life, and to surmount constraints and obstacles to deliver incredible experiences to attendees at a vast array of public and private events both in Australia and overseas.”

The Australian Event Awards recognise the most outstanding events in Australia and achievements in the industry around the world. The Awards aim to highlight the incredible work being produced by Australian event professionals, which places the nation’s industry amongst the best in the world, and to shine a light on the must-attend events for the Australian public.

The competition in the Best Exhibition category was fierce and the judging panel praised the achievements of Hair Expo Australia in 2016. The judges feedback highlighted areas in which Hair Expo Australia 2016 has excelled and this is what they had to say: “The event excelled in a number of areas including marketing, creative engagement of delegates and participants and presenting a challenging agenda that addressed many of the key industry sustainability issues, and took risks in terms of increasing the scope, size and format of the event in a bold step up to a new level of professionalism. Congratulations on revitalising the Expo in the new venue and best of luck with translating that back to the new Sydney venue. Well done - sounds like it was a great success for your client industry.”

The next Hair Expo Australia will be held on 10-12 June 2017 at the new ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour, so stay tuned for more exciting developments in the world of Hair & Beauty from Reed Exhibitions Australia.
